Many residents expressed concerns that the new WH Smith premises would be too small to house the Post Office

Jo Swinson has received a huge response to her petition from Kirkintilloch Post Office customers.

Since the petition was started last month, over 600 residents have contacted Jo with their views on the proposal to move the Kerr St. Post Office to WH Smith.

These responses have now been submitted as evidence to the Post Office's consultation on the proposed branch relocation. In the submission document, which can be downloaded from this site, Jo urges Post Office Ltd to consider the views of residents, re-think the move and find other ways to improve the profitability of the branch.

Commenting on the response to her Post Office petition, Jo said:

"The high volume of petition responses I have received sends a clear signal. People are clearly very concerned about the effect of these plans on the Post Office service in Kirkintilloch.

"I have so far received over 600 petition signatures back, with more arriving every day. Every one of these responses expresses concern or opposition to the proposed Post Office relocation. Together, they make a compelling submission to the Post Office consultation and I hope they will force a re-think on this ill-founded proposal."

One of the people to contact Jo Swinson about the Post Office move was Kirkintilloch resident Mrs Reba Copper. She said:

"WH Smith has a totally inadequate area to replace the Post Office building, which can contain the queues at busy periods. A town the size of Kirkintilloch should have a proper Post Office, not just one squashed inside another shop."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
