Milngavie Farmers' Markets has established a strong presence in the town

Jo Swinson MP has launched a campaign to save East Dunbartonshire Farmers' Markets.

Farmers' Markets in East Dunbartonshire have come under threat with the news that East Dunbartonshire Town Centre Management Ltd has ceased trading.

Jo has written to East Dunbartonshire Council Chief Executive Sue Bruce to stress the urgent need for action to safeguard the future of local Farmers' Markets.

She has also launched an online petition, urging East Dunbartonshire Council to step in to guarantee the future of the Farmers' Markets in Milngavie and Kirkintilloch.

Commenting on the campaign, Jo said:

"At a time when Farmers' Markets are increasing in popularity and prevalence across the country, it is very concerning that our local Farmers' Markets are under threat.

"Customers enjoy the high quality local produce, while the markets benefit not just the stallholders but the wider East Dunbartonshire economy. By offering local goods, Farmers' Markets also reduce food mileage, improving environmental sustainability.

"East Dunbartonshire Council should now step in to safeguard the future of the Farmers' Markets. I have written to Sue Bruce to stress this point, and have launched an online petition to help local residents to get behind the campaign."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
