The conservation garden will be studied and tended by Craigdhu primary pupils

Jo Swinson was on hand to pitch in with volunteers creating a new conservation garden at Craigdhu Primary, Milngavie, today, as part of the school's 'living classroom'.

The ground clearing work was being undertaken by BTCV, the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, to prepare for the garden to be created at the school. Parents of Craigdhu pupils will plant the garden, which will give pupils an opportunity to learn about nature and conservation.

Jo said:

"The school's 'living classroom' is a great way of helping the pupils at Craigdhu learn about the nature around them. They will be able to study the new conservation garden as it grows and changes.

"It is more important than ever to educate pupils about conservation and the natural environment, as they will be the guardians of our environment in years to come."

BTCV run a wide variety of conservation projects on a voluntary basis. They currently operate 4 days a week, offering a free pick-up to all volunteers. For more information on volunteering with BTCV, local Community Projects Officer John McGregor can be contacted by phone: (0141) 956 6816 or email: j.mcgregor@btcv.org.uk.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
