Jo gets the lowdown on top Milngavie employer

February 2, 2007 12:44 PM
Jo Swinson at Flexible Ducting

Jo is planning further visits to other top East Dunbartonshire employers in the near future

Jo Swinson visited Milngavie's largest manufacturing employer Flexible Ducting on a fact-finding mission today.

Jo held talks with Site Manager Callum Cubbage and the management team before touring the plant site at Cloberfield, Milngavie.

Commenting on the visit, Jo said:

"Flexible Ducting is the largest employer in the manufacturing sector in Milngavie and one of the largest in East Dunbartonshire. It forms part of the backbone of East Dunbartonshire's local economy.

"Working with large, locally-based businesses means addressing issues affecting large numbers of residents. Today's meeting was a chance to raise issues of concern, some obvious and some less so obvious.

"As with many other parts of the country, the top employers in East Dunbartonshire face tough competition in today's global marketplace. However, with a solid footing in the manufacturing industry, as well as a highly skilled workforce, this area has the resources to meet these challenges.

"As well as today's visit, I have been scheduling other meetings with East Dunbartonshire's large employers to take place in the near future."

Callum Cubbage, Site Manager for the Milngavie facility, said:

"We are grateful for the opportunity to show Jo Swinson how a traditional manufacturer like Flexible Ducting needs to continually adapt to the changing marketplace. Hopefully this visit has given her an insight into our business activities and the specific challenges we face in maintaining our position as one of the leading manufacturers in our field."

Flexible Ducting, part of Smiths group, employs 108 people in the design and manufacture of hose, ducting and tubing products. The company supplies many of the best-known names in the domestic and industrial sectors.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
