Home Fire Safety visits are carried out free of charge by local officers

Jo Swinson has highlighted the need for fire safety in the home, after spending the afternoon with Kirkintilloch Fire Brigade yesterday.

As well as taking a tour of Kirkintilloch Fire Station, Ms Swinson accompanied officers on a Home Safety Visit, to identify and give advice on potential domestic fire risks.

Commenting after the visit, Jo said:

"With 228 accidental house fires tackled last year by East & West Dunbartonshire Division of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, people should be aware of the wide variety of fire risks that exist in the home, and should be prepared if a fire does start. Home Fire Safety Visits with local fire officers can be arranged by calling Strathclyde Fire Brigade on (0800) 073 1999.

"As well as responding to fire calls, the officers at Kirkintilloch Fire Station, like all fire officers across East Dunbartonshire, do a great deal of work to promote fire safety awareness in schools and homes around the area. They are well aware that where fire is concerned, prevention is better than cure."

Home Fire Safety visits can also be arranged through local Fire Stations in East Dunbartonshire:

Kirkintilloch Fire Station - (0141) 776 6263

Bishopbriggs Fire Station - (0141) 772 2223

Milngavie Fire Station - (0141) 956 2223

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
