Ming Campbell began the Conference's Diversity & Equality day with the announcement of a Diversity Fund, initially standing at £200,000

Jo Swinson MP has welcomed the announcement by Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell of a Diversity Fund, which will provide money to local Lib Dem parties with women and ethnic minority prospective parliamentary candidates.

Ming Campbell revealed this morning that an initial fund of £200,000 would be available to help prospective parliamentary candidates at the next general election.

Ms Swinson said:

"We need to work harder than ever to ensure that the makeup of the Liberal Democrat party resembles that of the communities we seek to represent.

"Our priority must be to bring electoral success to more women and ethnic minority candidates. The Diversity Fund announced today by Ming Campbell shows the commitment that we have within the Lib Dems to changing the face of the parliamentary party to better represent 21st Century Britain.

"I look forward to tackling the diversity and equality agenda head-on in my new role as chair of the party's Campaign for Gender Balance."

The Lib Dems are using Monday at Federal Conference in Brighton to promote diversity and equality within the party. Ms Swinson will make a speech this evening to women councillors and candidates at a reception being held by Ming Campbell.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
