Jo is seeking the views of East Dunbartonshire sports clubs on the 2014 bid and 2012 Olympics to present to Sportscotland

Jo Swinson MP has put out a call to local sports clubs to bring the benefits of the 2012 Olympics and Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games bid to East Dunbartonshire.

Having met recently with the 2014 Bid Director, Jo is scheduled to hold talks with Sportscotland (the national agency for sport in Scotland) at the end of May. She has written to sports clubs across East Dunbartonshire, requesting feedback on their hopes and expectations of what the 2012 Games and 2014 bid will do for sport at a grassroots level.

Jo will to present these views to Sportscotland at the meeting, making a strong case for investment in sport in East Dunbartonshire.

Commenting on the issue, Jo said:

"The benefits for sport at all levels in this country from 2012 and, potentially, 2014, can be huge, and I want to see East Dunbartonshire getting its fair share of these.

"There are numerous forms that these benefits may take, from the upgrading of sports facilities, to the re-investment of revenues in basic equipment, to the launching of initiatives to encourage children and young people to participate in sport.

"I can put forward the views of those who want to see a vibrant sporting community in East Dunbartonshire, but the people directly involved in local sport need to make their voices heard and take advantage of the opportunity offered by these two landmark events."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
