Warning against premature cuts at Stobhill

Jo has held the latest in a series of meetings on the changes affecting Stobhill
Medical facilities replacing those at Stobhill Hospital must be fully operational before any services are axed at Stobhill, says Jo Swinson MP.
Jo aired her views at a meeting yesterday with Stobhill ACAD (Ambulatory Care and Diagnostic) Project Manager Alex McIntyre and Greater Glasgow Health Board Medical Director Dr Brian Cowan.
Commenting after the meeting, Jo said:
"Though I and many others have been fighting to save services at Stobhill, the reality is that some services will eventually be relocated elsewhere. I used this meeting to press the point that it is imperative that before any of the services currently provided at Stobhill are withdrawn, those replacing them at the Royal Infirmary are not only in place but are seen to be working effectively. Only by doing this will a smooth transition be ensured as service provision across Glasgow is altered.
Jo also commented on the announcement made last month that twelve short-stay beds were to be incorporated into the plans for Stobhill ACAD hospital, in addition to the outpatient, day case and day surgical care provision already planned.
She said:
"The recent good news regarding short-stay beds at Stobhill showed that putting steady, collective pressure on the Health Board can yield results. As I have said before, the short-stay beds announcement was one step in the right direction, and I will keep working to ensure that this message is heard. Next month I will be putting forward the case for retaining further services at Stobhill in a meeting with the Health Board's Chief Operating Officer."
The new Stobhill ACAD hospital is on track to be completed in 2008, with the final design of the new hospital due to be signed off by the end of this month. Demolition work on some wards is also expected to start this month.
Under the Health Board's reorganisation project, inpatient beds will be located at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Gartnavel and the Southern General, while A&E services are being reduced to two centres at the Royal Infirmary and Southern General.
