Ming Campbell's campaign launch

"Ming is an extraordinary politician. He has a unique blend of statesmanship, warmth, and determination to win." - Jo Swinson

Jo Swinson MP has helped launch Sir Menzies Campbell's leadership campaign with a speech praising his strong qualities as a leader.

The first of four supporting speakers at the campaign launch, Jo paid tribute to Ming as a politician of stature and principle. She also spoke of the large body of support for his leadership bid, both within Parliament and around the country.

Following the campaign launch, Jo commented: "Ming Campbell is a hugely respected figure in British politics. His formidable criticism of the war in Iraq summed up the feelings of millions around the UK. Ming is an extraordinary politician. He has a unique blend of statesmanship, warmth, and determination to win.

"Ming Campbell is a credible Prime Minister, possessing the necessary qualities and support to lead the Liberal Democrats with unity and authority."

The other speakers introducing Ming Campbell were Mike Storey, former leader of Liverpool City Council, Baroness Shirley Williams and Nick Clegg MP.

Ming set out five key priorities for his leadership of the Liberal Democrats:

  • To promote social mobility and nurture the aspirations of all.
  • To defend the cause of civil and individual liberties.
  • To cherish our shared environment.
  • To shape events in the wider world.
  • To empower people and communities, not the state

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
