Jo has used Make A Difference Day to draw attention to the work of volunteers

Across East Dunbartonshire, volunteers have given up their time for CSV Make A Difference Day, on Saturday 29th October. MP Jo Swinson spent the afternoon serving tea and coffee to customers at the Coach House, a local charity in Balmore.

Jo commented,

"This was an enjoyable and rewarding way to spend my Saturday. I was grateful to the Coach House for letting me help. I have often enjoyed a cup of tea or light lunch in the Coach House, which is a great success story in the local community.

"The day was a great way to draw attention to the unsung work of volunteers nationwide, and to get people out volunteering who were perhaps not used to doing so."

Coach House Manager Sue Bond commented,

"We were delighted that Jo Swinson was willing to give up her time to volunteer at the Coach House. She sent out a positive message about the way in which communities can be improved through volunteering.

"We are a small Charity shop and tearoom and our discerning, loyal clientele were very pleased to have their teas and coffees served to them by the local MP."

The Coach House is a tea room and retail outlet for the Balmore Trust, a local charity that has been established for over 25 years. As well as having a tearoom, it sells Christmas cards, Christmas decorations, Advent calendars, Advent candles and books, plus a huge range of fairly traded goods, including crafts, clothes, jewellery, toys, soft furnishings and foods.

Nearly 100,000 people gave up their time to improve their local community as part of CSV's Make a Difference Day. The campaign was supported by Barclays community investment programme and the Home Office Active Communities Directorate.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
