Jo Swinson will be supporting the Breast Cancer Campaign by dressing in pink

Jo Swinson MP will show her support for the Breast Cancer Campaign's (BCC) national 'wear it pink®' day on 28 October, by dressing in pink.

Jo wants to encourage people in East Dunbartonshire to wear an item of pink clothing on the 28th, which is the last Friday of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in recognition of the cause. The public are being encouraged to donate £2 to BCC, which is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK.

Jo commented,

"Every year over 13,000 people in the UK die from breast cancer. In East Dunbartonshire this means each year about 14 people will die from the disease, with many more also affected, but successfully treated. It is for this reason that I am supporting Breast Cancer Campaign's 'wear it pink' day. The money raised is essential for the charity, as it will continue to help fund its breast cancer research at centres of excellence across the country."

Thanks to the participation in 2004 of companies, schools, universities, clubs, associations and local authorities throughout the UK, last year's event was the most successful BCC fundraising event ever. Over £1.3 million was raised in just one day and BCC won the UK Charity Award for 'Fundraising Campaign of the Year'.

The money raised from this year's event goes towards valuable medical research to help the one woman in nine in the UK who will be affected by this disease in her lifetime.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
