The 1st Bearsden Boys' Brigade Company have celebrated the success of their summer trip to Chicago and Wisconsin, USA, with an open evening for parents and friends.

The evening was also a chance for the Boys to thank those who had supported their fundraising efforts.

A capacity crowd in the Boys Brigade Hall, which included Jo Swinson MP and Provost Pat Steel, heard from the Boys about the highlights of the trip and were treated to a video presentation of the sights taken in during the two week expedition.

Alistair Burrow, Captain of the Company and trip leader, said: "We were delighted by the support we received from the local community for this venture and the Boys were pleased to have Jo Swinson and the Provost along to see and hear what they had done. The trip was a fantastic experience for all of us in so many ways, and the memories and friendships will last a long time."

Jo Swinson commented: "The evening was inspiring! Both the young people and their parents should be very proud of what they achieved. The whole process of the trip - from initial fundraising and organisation through to the activities on the trip, and then the preparation of such an entertaining and comprehensive report back - was clearly a great learning experience. I commend everyone who made it possible, and it's fantastic that businesses and individuals in the community have supported the Boys' Brigade's efforts."

As well as hearing from the Boys about their experiences, all present received a written report on the trip.

The evening concluded with the trippers singing the camp song "Up to Onaway", which expressed their determination to make a return trip one day.

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
