Jo visited school pupils in Bishopbriggs.

Jo Swinson MP today faced questioning be one of her toughest audiences yet - a class of S3 pupils at Bishopbriggs High School.

The Modern Studies class heard Jo relate her experiences as a new member of Parliament, then asked questions on a range of topical issues, from Stobhill hospital to the war in Iraq.

Jo commented,

"The S3 pupils were very switched on. They showed an interest in the political process as well as a good grasp of local issues. Some had done research by looking at my focus leaflets and my website, which impressed me.

"Being approachable to young people is a real challenge for modern politicians. As someone who is passionate about getting young people into politics, I was very keen to present the subject of politics in a way that would be accessible and thought-provoking. From their response, I think the visit was a success."

Modern Studies teacher Miss A Brown commented,

"It was a pleasure meeting Jo, she clearly related well to pupils and vice-versa. Several staff sat in and they too thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The pupils took a lot from the talk, in terms of it illustrating the course on politics in Westminster that they are currently studying."
