Local groups will benefit from recent Lottery Awards

Jo Swinson MP has welcomed the latest set of lottery grants being awarded to East Dunbartonshire.

The latest round of Awards for All Lottery grants, announced on Friday, sees East Dunbartonshire receiving an above average share of the funds.

Jo commented, "In this latest round of grants, East Dunbartonshire is one of the highest recipients of awards per person, which is good news for groups in our area."

East Dunbartonshire has been awarded a total of £59,653, which will go towards supporting small, local groups engaged in a variety of community, sports, arts, heritage, health, environment and education based projects.

Of the 32 Council areas in Scotland, East Dunbartonshire has received the 14th highest awards total. However, per head of population, it rises to 9th highest, with larger shares going mostly to the more remote parts of the country such as Shetland, Orkney, the Highlands and the Western Isles.

Thirteen health, education, environment and community projects, including Milngavie 'Time Out' Club, Kirkintilloch Skatepark Initiative (KSI) and Bearsden South Church Nursery, have received funds totalling £44,653.

Local sport has also received a boost, with £10,000 received in awards from Sportscotland. The money will be used to fund accommodation for Bishopbriggs Juniors Golf Club, and to buy football strips and equipment for Torrance Youth Club.

Jo congratulated those receiving awards. "This is a real boost for important services in East Dunbartonshire. The money is going to nurseries, playgroups, music tuition, parent teacher associations and a project to help the handicapped, among others. These are all thoroughly deserving recipients; I congratulate them and wish them continued success."

"I see the latest round of grants as continued evidence of the benefits of lottery funding to local, community-based groups and projects."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
