Jo Swinson opposes Labour's plans for student top-up fees

East Dunbartonshire Liberal Democrat candidate Jo Swinson has hit out at her Labour opponent over his support for student tuition fees.

While student funding is a Holyrood matter, the Labour candidate John Lyons made a point of voting to introduce top up tuition fees on all students in England in his time as an MP.

Jo Swinson commented: "It is clear that Labour are itching to reverse the scrapping of student tuition fees that the Liberal Democrats forced them to do in 2000. John Lyons' voting record in Westminster speaks for itself. A vote for him is a vote to reintroduce student tuition fees in Scotland.

"The Liberal Democrats need just a 3.1 per cent swing in East Dunbartonshire to defeat this New Labour loyalist. Tory, SNP and Labour supporters who oppose student tuition fees should vote Liberal Democrat in this election."

If you are a resident of the East Dunbartonshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
