On Saturday afternoon Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire attended the PlaceCheck set up by the Bishopbriggs Community Champions. More than 100 people came along and contributed a range of thoughts, ideas and concerns surrounding the development plans for the town centre, including what they currently like and dislike about the town centre area.
Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire signed a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons, pledging her commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and honouring those who died during the Holocaust.
Friday January 27th will mark the 67th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history. The Holocaust Educational Trust has placed a Book of Commitment in the House of Commons, giving MPs the chance to honour those who were persecuted and killed during the Holocaust and encouraging constituents to actively speak out against prejudice and bigotry today.
Jo Swinson MP is looking for a part-time intern to work in her constituency office in Bishopbriggs. The role will involve supporting Jo and her team with constituency work.
The role would involve up to 18 hours per week and is offered for a period of three months.
Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire has called on the SNP to adhere to its own manifesto and hold a referendum with a simple yes-no question to decide Scotland's future in the union.
Commenting, Jo said:
"The Coalition Government is doing all it can to make sure the referendum is legal so that the voice of the Scottish people can be heard. No one wants a long drawn out court battle. Instead we need a clear, conclusive result that will allow Scotland to move forward."
Jo Swinson MP has strongly criticised the Scottish Government for creating a cancer divide, after being contacted by a constituent unable to receive a specialist drug that would be available in England.
The constituent, who has terminal cancer resulting from malignant melanoma, was told by his oncologist that the drug Ipilimumab had been shown to improve the condition of patients with similar conditions. However his request for the drug was rejected by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as it is not currently recommended by the Scottish Medicines Consortium.
Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire has welcomed the Government's plans for a £33bn high-speed rail network, dubbed HS2. The announced 'Y' shaped network will provide high speed links between London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, which will allow for faster direct trains between Glasgow and London.
Jo Swinson MP has backed Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie's campaign to protect local college places.
As a consequence of the SNP Government's £40million college funding cuts, almost 9000 college places could be lost across Scotland, threatening the depth and quality of courses at local colleges such as Clydebank College.
Business leaders have backed the £1bn Youth Contract, announced by Liberal Democrat Leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg in November, which aims to ensure that all jobless young people are earning or learning again before long-term damage is done.
